Bishop Duncan M. Gray, Jr. died on Friday, July 15, 2016. In celebration of his life, we wanted to share a six-year-old archival interview of the Bishop by Dr. Charles Reagan Wilson. In the interview, Bishop Gray speaks about his time as priest at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Oxford. Particularly interesting is Gray’s experience with the 1962 riot on campus concerning James Meredith’s entrance to the University of Mississippi.

The Center, working with the group now known as SouthDocs, used to have an interview series called Conversations on Southern Culture, of which this conversation is a part. Eric Feldman and Joe York filmed the conversation, and then-graduate student Blount Montgomery edited it.
